Dumbarton litter hero, Jonathon Rainey has been volunteering to pick litter in local Overtoun Estate Woods since 2014.
Jonathon is 21-years-old, has High-Functioning Autism, and is an Environmental Science student at The Open University. In addition to his busy academic schedule, Jonathon has been volunteering to pick up litter in Overtoun Estate Woods since mid-August 2014, the Gruggies Burn beside East End Park and the beach beside Levengrove Park in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire since late-October 2014.
Despite what sometimes seems like a never-ending battle against litter, especially along the beach, Jonathon continues to put his efforts into cleaning up his local area and restoring it to its former glory.
Jonathon photographs the results of his picks and uploads photos to social media. This has gained Jonathon a good deal of local media attention, being featured in the comments section of the ‘Lennox Herald’ and ‘Dumbarton & Vale of Leven Reporter’ numerous times. A Facebook page called ‘Project Schone Schie’ has also been showing Jonathon’s story.
Jonathon will be doing his own litter picks on the weekend for the Clean for the Queen event. To follow Jonathon’s progress, check out his Twitter profile and hashtags:
